Filmshakers Festival Official Rules
Void where prohibited.
The concept, ideas, and language in the video must be original to the entrant(s). Plagiarism may result in disqualification from the film festival. Do not include any logos, brand names, trademarks, or copyrighted material in your video submission. Finalists must be able to provide written permission from each person whose name, image, or voice appears in their entry video. If they fail to do so, the film will be disqualified and another finalist will be found.
Videos may not contain any music unless either [a] the music was created by the entrant or by someone who has given the entrant written permission to use the music or [b] the music does not require credits or other attribution.
Videos may be submitted in teams of up to five people, but every team member must be attending eighth grade, high school, or the homeschool equivalent in the years 2018-2019. In addition, all main characters in the film must be attending eighth grade, high school, or the homeschool equivalent as well.
The entry video must be at least 3 minutes in length but not more than 10 minutes in length, including end credits. The video must incorporate peace-building and/or anti-bigotry. The films must be in English or have English subtitles.
Filmshakers Festival reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry at any time which is deemed to be [a] obscene, immoral, profane, defamatory, or not in keeping with Filmshakers Festival’s overall goal; [b] endangers the safety of any person; violates any law or regulation; violates or infringes on any proprietary right or invades the privacy or publicity rights of any person living or deceased; [c] defames, misrepresents, or contains disparaging remarks about any person, product, or company; or is in violation of these Official Rules.
Any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action connected with this festival, or any prizes awarded, or the determination of winners, shall be resolved individually without resort to any form of class action.
Regular entries must be submitted by midnight Eastern Standard Time the night of September 5th, 2019.
To upload an entry video, paste your video’s YouTube URL into the applicable box in the entry form. Do not mention Filmshakers in the posting of your YouTube video.
Entrants and their parent(s)/legal guardian(s) hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) and liabilities (including settlements) asserted by any third party against any of the Released Parties due to or arising out of an entry, or he participant’s conduct in creating an entry or otherwise in connection with this contest. All taxes on prizes and all expenses related to acceptance and use of the prizes are the sole responsibility of the applicable winners and their parent(s)/legal guardian(s).
Released Parties are not responsible and shall not be liable for [a] electronic, network, or Internet malfunctions, failures or difficulties of any kind including any human error which may occur in the processing of entries; [b] late, lost, misdirected, corrupted or incomplete entries.
The potential Finalists will be notified by email (at Filmshakers Festival’s sole discretion) within the month of August, 2019.
Each potential Finalist may be required to complete and submit [a] a revised version of their entry video which addresses any of Filmshaker Festival’s concerns as presented at the time of notification as a potential Finalist; [b] a “movie poster” showcasing their video; and [c] a brief blurb about the making of their video.
